Sunquest Customers manage COVID-19 outbreak surveillance with help from Sunquest WorldCare™

by Carl Hull | March 13, 2020 | Blog

Sunquest WorldCare is a software solution for public health departments, laboratories and health practitioners to investigate disease incidents, track transmission, and proactively prevent outbreaks. As COVID-19 (Coronavirus) continues to grow and spread throughout the world, our Sunquest WorldCare clients are able to leverage their system tools to heavily support their novel coronavirus work.

How it works: public health officials input suspect and confirmed COVID-19 cases, as well as “Persons Under Investigation” (PUIs) into Sunquest WorldCare. They are then able to document contact incidents and use the system for routing and contact incident close out. In addition, Sunquest WorldCare users can capture the track information from phone conversations to exposed and suspect cases by public health nurses. And, for some, they are using the system to track all isolated and quarantined cases.

Others are aggregating and analyzing COVID-19 data in their systems and making actionable decisions based on the data. They are also able to share cases across jurisdictions if appropriate. One jurisdiction is having Sunquest send laboratory data to both the state and county public health departments at the same time so there is no information lag.

Given that each disease or outbreak may have different characteristics and require different information be captured or monitored, Sunquest WorldCare was designed with flexibility in mind. As a result, Sunquest customers were able to quickly build new forms specific to the coronavirus, without requiring any custom development or additional services by Sunquest. This has even applied to a client that just went live with an expedited timeline in order to begin monitoring the novel coronavirus.

In short, Sunquest WorldCare clients can be agile and efficient, and are not waiting for their systems to catch up to coronavirus; rather they are staying current with flexible forms that change as new information about the disease comes out.
