Tucson, AZ, June xx, 2008 –Sunquest Information Systems, Inc., a market leader in laboratory information systems, today announced that it has provided its 510(k) Premarket Notification submission to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the Sunquest Transfusion Manager software application and information system. Before a Class II product can be sold commercially in the United States, the FDA must provide clearance of the 510(k) Premarket Notification submission. The Transfusion Manager will be an integral part of Sunquest’s comprehensive patient safety initiatives, and will complement the company’s market leading specimen Collection Manager solution.
The Sunquest Transfusion Manager (TRM) will integrate with Sunquest’s award-winning Laboratory Information System (LIS) and Blood Bank solutions, and is designed to support patient safety initiatives by reducing preventable errors from occurring during the transfusion process. TRM will be used by trained healthcare professionals responsible for transfusion services and will function primarily at the patient bedside through the use of a hand-held computing device or portable PC, with or without wireless communication. It will provide laboratories and care providers with the ability to effectively manage the following transfusion service activities:
- Positively identify transfusion recipients by scanning the recipient patient’s bar-coded armband
- Match blood products to recipients
- Record recipient pertinent transfusion information
- Record recipient transfusion reactions and care provider comments
